Western Coalfields Limited, one of Coal India's oldest subsidiaries, has opened up 444 statutory supervisory posts across its underground and opencast mines in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Unlike most WCL hiring drives that run on multiple technical grades, this one is narrowly focused on two safety-critical roles: Mining Sirdar and Assistant Foreman (Trainee) Electrical / Electrical Supervisor, both at T&S Grade-C.

Both posts sit at the intersection of technical qualification and statutory certification — a diploma alone won't get you through the door here. Candidates need DGMS-issued competency certificates, gas testing and first-aid credentials, or electrical supervisory certification specific to mines, depending on which post they're eyeing.

Note: Degrees/diplomas obtained through distance or part-time learning are not considered valid for either post. Restricted competency certificates are also not accepted, as vacancies span both underground and opencast mines.

CBT Structure & Qualifying Marks

The test is split into a short general-aptitude section and a much heavier technical component, with no penalty for guessing — a rare and candidate-friendly feature among PSU recruitment exams.

Once results are out, shortlisting for document verification runs at three times the notified vacancies in each category — so clearing the qualifying mark alone doesn't guarantee a call; relative merit within your category still matters. Selected candidates should also be prepared for postings across any of WCL's underground or opencast mines in Nagpur, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Betul, or Chhindwara, with liability for transfer to any area during their service.
