UPSC's latest notification covers two senior school leadership roles under the Directorate of Education, GNCT of Delhi — 124 Principal and 704 Vice-Principal posts. Both are Group "A" Gazetted positions with real administrative weight, and both carry a fairly demanding eligibility bar built around years of classroom and leadership experience rather than fresh qualifications alone.

Citizenship Eligibility

A candidate must be one of the following:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with intent to settle permanently, or
• A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with intent to settle permanently — subject to a Government of India eligibility certificate for the last four categories.

Principal — Full Vacancy & PwBD Break-up (124 Posts)

7 posts reserved for PwBD (5 fresh + 2 backlog), included within the 124 total. Suitability/reservation threshold: 40% disability or more.

Vice-Principal — Full Vacancy & PwBD Break-up (704 Posts)

28 posts reserved for PwBD (27 fresh + 1 backlog), included within the 704 total.

Note: For Vice-Principal, Cerebral Palsy (CP) IS suitable/reserved; for Principal, CP is NOT. Non-suitable sub-types for both posts: BH, BLA, OLA, BLOA, MDy, SD, SI, ASD, and ID (standalone).

Educational Qualification, Experience & Duties

Qualifications are relaxable at UPSC's discretion for otherwise well-qualified candidates. Experience requirements are relaxable for SC/ST candidates if sufficient eligible candidates aren't available. OBC reservation applies ONLY to candidates holding an OBC certificate issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi — certificates from other States/UTs are treated as General/Unreserved.

Age Concessions & Relaxations — The Full Picture

A PwBD candidate who is also a Central Government employee gets whichever relaxation is more beneficial — not both stacked together. Ex-Servicemen who've already secured a regular Central Government civil post can still use ExSM age relaxation for another post, but lose ExSM reservation benefit a second time.

Scribe & Compensatory Time for PwBD Candidates

• Candidates with Blindness, Locomotor Disability (both arms affected), or Cerebral Palsy are automatically eligible for a scribe.
• Other benchmark disability categories (40%+) need a certificate from a Government hospital's CMO/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent confirming a scribe is essential.
• Candidates with less than 40% disability but genuine writing difficulty can also get a scribe with a similar medical certificate.
• Candidates may bring their own scribe or request one from UPSC — the scribe's qualification cannot exceed the exam's minimum eligibility, but must be at least matriculate.
• Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the test is available for eligible categories, whether or not a scribe is used.

Exam-Day & Conduct Rules

• OMR sheets must be filled using black ball pen ONLY — no pencil, no ink pen, no other colour.
• Any error in encoding Roll Number or Test Booklet Series Code can render the answer sheet invalid.
• Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, pen drives, or any communication/storage device are strictly banned inside the venue — even switched off.
• Mandatory face authentication and frisking at the exam venue/interview hall — arrive early.
• No admit card is sent by post; download the e-Admit Card from the UPSC website before the test date.
• Outstation candidates called for interview get Second/Sleeper Class (Mail/Express) train fare reimbursement, paid via NEFT — bring a filled TA form, hard-copy tickets, and bank details.

A structural point worth remembering: your Universal Registration Number (URN) stays with you for life across every UPSC recruitment, but the Application Number generated for this specific post is different each time you apply elsewhere. Keep both safe — you'll need them for any future correspondence, and the URN in particular is what UPSC treats as your permanent identity within their system, well beyond this single vacancy.
