Engineer C — Pay Level 11 (2 Posts)

Both Engineer C positions are in Electronics and carry Pay Level 11 (approximately Rs. 67,700 – 2,08,700 per month). Both positions are unreserved (UR). The essential qualification for both is an M.Sc. or Engineering degree in Electronics with First Class plus 3 years of relevant experience, or alternatively, an M.Tech Degree in Electronics with First Class marks. The upper age limit is 35 years. Position 1 desirably seeks candidates with experience in precision analog design, high-speed digital and RF Engineering, magnetic field control, embedded systems and firmware, PCB design and simulation, laser control electronics, and data acquisition — skills typical of advanced physics research support roles. Position 2 focuses on designing and fabricating scientific instruments (amplifiers, temperature controllers, etc.), automating physics experiments through computer interfacing, and maintaining and operating precision instruments in a research laboratory environment.

Engineer B — Pay Level 10 (4 Posts)

Engineer B positions carry Pay Level 10 (approximately Rs. 56,100 – 1,77,500 per month) across three disciplines — Electronics (2 posts), Mechanical (1 post), and Instrumentation (1 post). The upper age limit for all Engineer B posts is 35 years. The 2 Electronics posts require an M.Sc. or Engineering degree in Electronics with First Class. Position 1 (Electronics) desirably seeks experience in antenna design and analog/RF & digital instrumentation for precision Radio Astronomy experiments — directly relevant to RRI's SARAS and APSERa projects. Position 2 (Electronics) desirably requires hands-on expertise in FPGA, RF cards, Machine Learning, optical frequency combs, microwave sources, optomechanical systems, Python, C#/C++, LabVIEW — a highly specialized technical profile. The Mechanical post (Position 3) requires an M.Sc. or Mechanical Engineering degree with First Class, with desirable experience in mechanical simulation, design, and fabrication for X-ray optics development. The Instrumentation post (Position 4) requires an M.Sc. or Engineering degree in Instrumentation with First Class, with desirable experience in microfluids, lithography, surface coating, optical design, and automation of physics experiments.

Engineering Assistant C — Pay Level 5 (8 Posts)

Engineering Assistant C positions carry Pay Level 5 (approximately Rs. 29,200 – 92,300 per month) and the upper age limit is 28 years. All 8 posts require a Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline. There are 4 Electronics posts, each with a distinct desirable specialization: Position 1 seeks X-ray optics and electronics development experience, Position 2 seeks RF instrumentation experience, Position 3 targets antenna and analog instrumentation, and Position 4 focuses on digital instrumentation. The single Mechanical post (Position 5) seeks Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with desirable experience in mechanical designs, 3D drawings, and prototype building. The IT post (Position 6) requires a Diploma in Computer Science/IT and desirably looks for working knowledge of Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems, hardware and software support, LAN/WiFi troubleshooting, and networking certification. The Civil post (Position 7) requires Diploma in Civil Engineering with 3 years of experience in relevant field preferred, and AutoCAD knowledge is desirable. The Electrical post (Position 8) requires Diploma in Electrical Engineering with desirable experience in substation operation, maintenance, and electrical project works.

Tradesman A — Pay Level 2 (8 Posts)

Tradesman A positions carry Pay Level 2 (approximately Rs. 19,900 – 63,200 per month) with an upper age limit of 28 years. All Tradesman A posts require an ITI in the relevant trade. There are 2 Electrical posts — Position 1 desirably seeks experience in handling UPS, Chiller Units, AHUs, and high-pressure air supplies, while Position 2 targets candidates with experience in electrical maintenance, day-to-day laboratory maintenance, field wiring, and integration and testing activities. The AC Mechanic post (Position 3) requires ITI in Air Conditioning with desirable experience in Chiller Units, AHUs, and high-pressure air supplies. The Mechanical post (Position 4) requires ITI in Mechanical with desirable experience in assembling telescope structures and antennas — a uniquely fascinating role for an ITI holder, directly contributing to RRI's radio astronomy telescope assembly and integration activities. The final 4 posts (Positions 5-8) are for Fitter/Turner/Machinist, requiring ITI in the respective trades with desirable hands-on experience in workshop machinery operation, mechanical fitting, basic machining, and the ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring instruments.

Application Fee and Payment

The application fee is Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) for UR, OBC (NCL), and EWS candidates, payable online through the RRI recruitment portal. SC/ST/Women/Divyaang (PwD) candidates are fully exempt from the application fee. Candidates applying for multiple posts must submit completely separate applications with separate fee payments for each post. The fee once paid is non-refundable under any circumstance, even if the application is later found ineligible.

Selection Process

For Engineer C and Engineer B (Pay Level 10 and above), selection involves an Objective Test + Subjective Test + Interview. For Engineering Assistant C and Tradesman A (below Pay Level 10), selection involves an Objective Test + Subjective Test + Skill Test. Written test/skill test/interview expenses are borne entirely by the candidate. Mere possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee a call for the written test — applications are screened, and only shortlisted candidates are called. Call letters will be sent exclusively by email to the registered email address, so candidates must check their inbox regularly.

Critical Document Requirements — Read Before You Apply

This is perhaps the most important thing to know before applying: RRI will summarily reject applications that do not include mandatory document uploads. Candidates must upload Marks Cards and Certificates in support of qualification starting from Class 10th onwards, marks obtained in the essential qualification degree, Caste Certificate (if applicable), and Experience Certificate — all are mandatory along with the application form. There is no provision for submitting missing documents later, and no further correspondence will be entertained on this issue. The date of birth recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate or Birth Certificate is final — no subsequent request for change will be considered. Govt/PSU/Autonomous Body employees must either upload an NOC from their current employer or a signed undertaking to submit the NOC at the time of certificate verification. Candidate names must be filled in Block Letters exactly as per the Matriculation Certificate — any mismatch leads to summary forfeiture of candidature.
