869 Junior Engineer-I Posts — A Discipline-Specific Split Across Five Power Companies
RVUN has opened a common recruitment drive for Junior Engineer-I posts in Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil disciplines, spread across all five Rajasthan power companies. What makes this drive distinctive is how unevenly the disciplines are distributed — Electrical dominates with 727 of the 869 posts, while Mechanical is offered only through RVUN and Civil only through RVPN. Each discipline runs its own separate exam, so candidates need to know exactly which discipline-company combination they're eligible and competing for.
Discipline & Company-Wise Vacancy Breakdown
| Company | Electrical | Mechanical | Civil | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RVUN | 109 | 110 | – | 219 |
| RVPN | 162 | – | 32 | 194 |
| JVVN | 189 | – | – | 189 |
| AVVN | 144 | – | – | 144 |
| JdVVN | 123 | – | – | 123 |
| Total | 727 | 110 | 32 | 869 |
Figures combine both Non-TSP and TSP area vacancies for each company. JVVN alone accounts for over a fifth of all Electrical posts on offer.
Mechanical and Civil aren't available everywhere. If you're a Mechanical Engineering graduate, RVUN is your only company option in this drive. If you're a Civil Engineering graduate, RVPN is your only option. Only Electrical Engineering graduates get to choose across all five companies — so plan your company preference order accordingly.
Upper Age Limit, Discipline & Company-Wise
| Discipline & Company | Max Age (as on 01-01-2027) |
|---|---|
| Electrical — RVUN, JVVN, AVVN, JdVVN | 40 Years |
| Electrical — RVPN | 43 Years |
| Mechanical — RVUN | 40 Years |
| Civil — RVPN | 43 Years |
The higher cap at RVPN reflects that direct recruitment hadn't taken place there for a longer stretch compared to the other Nigams — this is a one-time adjustment, not a permanent difference.
Exam Pattern — Single Paper, 2 Hours
| Part | Coverage | Weightage |
|---|---|---|
| Part-A | Core subject knowledge at Degree level, in the candidate's own discipline (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil) | 60% |
| Part-B | Reasoning & Mental Ability, Mathematics (Class-XII), General Knowledge & Everyday Science, Hindi General (Class-X), English General (Class-X) | 40% |
The exam is Computer Based, fully objective, and negative marking applies for every wrong answer. Except for the Hindi General and English General sections, all Part-B content is bilingual (English and Hindi).
Minimum Qualifying Marks (Both Part-A and Part-B)
| Category | Minimum % |
|---|---|
| UR (Unreserved) | 30% |
| SC/ST/BC/MBC/EWS/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD | 20% |
Both Part-A and Part-B require these minimums independently — clearing only one part isn't enough. Final merit is based on the combined total of both parts.
A Real Edge for Ex-Apprentices of These Nigams
Trained apprentices get tie-break priority — but only within the same Nigam. If a candidate completed apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in a particular Vidyut Nigam, and ties on marks with a non-apprentice candidate in that same Nigam's merit list, the trained apprentice is ranked senior automatically. Among multiple trained apprentices tied on marks, the one trained earlier ranks higher. This preference does not carry over to any other Nigam's vacancies.
Scribe & Compensatory Time for PwBD Candidates
- Cerebral Palsy candidates whose writing speed is permanently affected get automatic scribe eligibility on request.
- Other PwBD candidates can get a scribe by producing a certificate from a Government Chief Medical Officer/Medical Superintendent confirming the physical limitation.
- The scribe must be arranged by the candidate, at their own cost, and must be from a different academic stream than the post's prescribed qualification.
- The scribe's own qualification must be at least one step below the candidate's qualification level.
- Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour is available to scribe-eligible candidates — but only if registered for it in advance in the online application.
Grounds for Disqualification
- Having more than one living spouse, or marrying someone who already has a living spouse — unless specially exempted under Personal Law.
- Having accepted dowry at the time of one's own marriage.
- Having more than two children born on or after 1 June 2002, with specific carve-outs for pre-2002 counts, twins/multiples from a single delivery, adopted children, and disabled children.
- This two-child bar does not apply to widow or divorcee women candidates.
Document Verification & Final Merit
- Candidates equal to roughly 2x the category-wise vacancies (per post and discipline) are called for Document Verification, in merit order.
- A separate Common Merit List is prepared only after Document Verification is complete, based on eligibility confirmed at that stage.
- Company allotment happens from this post-verification list, based on merit, the candidate's stated company preference, and category-wise vacancy availability.
- Failing to appear for Document Verification on the scheduled date leads to automatic rejection of candidature.
One thing worth remembering through this whole process: since each discipline runs as a genuinely separate exam and merit list, your preparation strategy should be discipline-specific from day one — there's no shared paper across Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil candidates. And because Mechanical and Civil openings sit with just one Nigam each, candidates in those streams don't get the same company-choice flexibility that Electrical candidates do.
