Candidates must hold a valid GATE score specifically in the paper code matching their chosen discipline — a strong score in a different GATE paper won't be accepted as equivalent.

How Ties in GATE Score Are Resolved

1. First priority: the candidate with the older GATE year (e.g., a 2024 score beats an identical 2026 score) is ranked higher.
2. Second priority: if the score and year are both identical, the older candidate (by age) is ranked higher.
3. Third priority: if there's still a tie, the candidate with the higher percentage in their essential qualification is ranked higher. For CGPA-based results where the university doesn't provide a conversion formula, the candidate must submit a Registrar-issued certificate confirming the equivalent percentage.

Citizenship Requirements

A candidate must be one of the following: a citizen of India; a subject of Nepal; a subject of Bhutan; a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling; or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates in the latter four categories must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

• Qualifications obtained through Open Universities or Distance Education mode are accepted, but only if approved by the Distance Education Council and, where applicable, AICTE, as per Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 1 March 1995.
• No claim of an "equivalent" qualification to what's listed in the eligibility table will be entertained — your degree must match the specified fields directly.
• Merely satisfying the eligibility criteria mentioned in the notification does not automatically qualify a candidate for appointment.
