IHMCL Systems Engineer (ITS) Recruitment 2026: 30 Posts for Engineering Graduates with GATE Score

Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), an initiative of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has released a recruitment notification (No. IHMCL/HR/Recruit./03/2026/04 dated 04 July 2026) inviting online applications for 30 posts of Systems Engineer (Intelligent Transport Systems) in the E-2 IDA Grade. The online application window opened on 04 July 2026 and the last date for submission is 02 August 2026 at 06:00 PM. Candidates with a valid GATE 2026 score in Computer Science (CS), Electronics and Communications Engineering (EC), or Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) disciplines are eligible to apply.

About IHMCL and the Role of Systems Engineer (ITS)

IHMCL is a company jointly promoted by NHAI along with its Concessionaires and Financial Institutions, incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956. The company was established with the specific mandate of implementing and managing an efficient Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system across national highways, and deploying Intelligent Transport Systems to enhance highway management and improve traffic flow across India's vast national road network. The Systems Engineer (ITS) role sits at the core of this mission — these engineers are responsible for developing, deploying, and managing the technology infrastructure that powers smart highway operations across the country, including FASTag-based toll systems, traffic monitoring, incident management systems, and data analytics for highway operations.

Vacancy Distribution and Pay Scale

Out of the total 30 vacancies, 14 are in the Unreserved (UR) category, 8 for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer from Central List), 4 for Scheduled Castes, 1 for Scheduled Tribes, and 3 for Economically Weaker Sections. Additionally, 1 post out of the total 30 is reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. The post is offered in the E-2 IDA Grade with a pay scale of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,60,000. At the starting basic pay of Rs. 50,000, the indicative monthly take-home salary works out to approximately Rs. 1,00,000 per month after including Dearness Allowance, Cafeteria Allowance, and HRA applicable for X Class cities, before statutory deductions such as EPF and Income Tax.

Educational Qualification and GATE Requirement

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in one or a combination of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence, from a recognized university or institute. This broad qualification umbrella ensures that engineers from multiple relevant streams can apply. In addition to the degree, candidates must possess a valid GATE 2026 score in the corresponding paper — Computer Science and Information Technology (CS), Electronics and Communications Engineering (EC), or Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA). The GATE score must be from the 2026 examination, and candidates should enter the exact score as appearing on their official GATE 2026 scorecard (range: 0 to 1000) during the online application.

Final Year Students Can Also Apply

IHMCL has extended eligibility to candidates who are in the final year of their Engineering Degree program and have not yet received their results. Such candidates may apply provisionally, provided they fulfill all other eligibility criteria. However, they must submit proof of having passed the qualifying examination in the form of a Degree Certificate or Provisional Certificate issued by the university or institute by 31 August 2026. Failure to produce this proof by the stipulated deadline will result in automatic cancellation of their candidature, irrespective of their performance in subsequent stages.

Age Limit

Candidates must be at least 21 years and not more than 30 years of age as on the last date of receipt of online applications, i.e., 02 August 2026. Age relaxation is available for SC and ST candidates (5 years), OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates (3 years), Central Government employees with 3 or more years of continuous service (5 years), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (10 years for General, 13 for OBC, and 15 for SC/ST category PwBD). Ex-Servicemen are entitled to age relaxation equal to the period of military service plus 3 additional years, subject to standard conditions.

Selection Process

The primary selection criterion for Systems Engineer (ITS) is the merit of the valid GATE Score 2026. IHMCL will prepare a category-wise merit list based on GATE scores. However, IHMCL reserves the right to invite candidates for a personal interview based on a category-wise cut-off score to be determined subsequently. In the event of a very large number of applications, additional shortlisting criteria may be applied at the discretion of the Selection Committee to bring the number of candidates for interaction to a manageable level. In case of a tie between two or more candidates in the same category with equal GATE scores, the older candidate will be placed higher in the merit list.

Service Bond Requirement

All selected candidates must execute a Service Bond of Rs. 3,00,000 at the time of joining, committing to serve IHMCL for a minimum period of 3 years from their date of joining. If a candidate resigns from service or is terminated on account of misconduct before the completion of 3 years, the bond amount of Rs. 3 lakh becomes payable to IHMCL. IHMCL has also clarified that it does not entertain the transfer of service bonds from other organizations. The post carries All India service liability, meaning selected candidates must be willing and prepared to serve anywhere in the country as required by IHMCL.

How to Apply Online

Candidates must apply exclusively through the online mode at ihmcl.co.in. After visiting the website, navigate to Careers, then New Openings, click on the relevant recruitment advertisement, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the application. The application requires uploading a scanned colour passport size photograph and signature (both in JPG/JPEG/PNG/GIF format, maximum 1 MB each), Class X certificate for date of birth proof (PDF, max 2 MB), relevant engineering degree certificate (PDF, max 2 MB), GATE 2026 score card (PDF, max 2 MB), and caste or category certificate if applicable (PDF, max 2 MB). Upon successful submission, a unique Reference Number and an Application Acknowledgement will be generated automatically and sent to the registered email address. Candidates must preserve this acknowledgement for future use. Only one application should be submitted — in case of multiple applications, only the last submitted application will be considered. All correspondence from IHMCL will be done exclusively via the registered email ID, so candidates must provide a correct and active email address.

OBC candidates must ensure their OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate is issued for the year 2026-27. EWS candidates must possess an Income and Asset Certificate for FY 2025-26 issued after 01 April 2026. SC/ST candidates must produce caste certificates in the prescribed Central Government format. No change in community/category status indicated at the time of online application will be permitted at any subsequent stage.
